Happy New Year, my lovelies! 2018 was a year of immense growth as well as hustle (way too much hustling). There were so many ups and downs (mostly downs), but I’m grateful for where it brought me – here, among all 10k of you, much more wiser and experienced than before.
I’m not usually one for making or keeping New Year’s resolutions, but somehow, this year feels different. So here’s a look at some of my goals for the year of 2019!
Look after myself
You guys knew this was going to be on the list. I’m pretty sure almost everyone has ‘get fit’ or ‘lose weight’ on their resolution list this year. Mine talks not only about looking after my body physically, but also looking after my mental health. 2018 was the year I realised how important mental health is and how it can take a huge toll on you if it’s not taken care of well.
Along with eating right (because my 24 and a half year old body can’t process junk food very well anymore) and working out consistently, I also want to take breaks from work to do things that’ll keep me sane, like travelling, writing, painting, etc.
Support a Charity
This is something I’ve been meaning to do ever since I started my first job last year, but I never really got the time to do. I believe it’s very important to give back. I’ve been blessed with an amazing family, great friends, a roof over my head, a source of income and so much more. It’s important to be grateful for all of that and to be generous to those who might not have any of these things. There are numerous ways of supporting a charity, it doesn’t have to only mean donating money. You could also donate your time by volunteering and showing support.
Manage Money better
2019 is the year i’ll be officially entering my mid-twenties (Yikes!), this means being more self sufficient and financially independent. I will be keeping a tab on all of my expenses and categorizing my monthly budgets into Necessities and Entertainment expenses. I’m usually terrible with numbers so this is a huge step for me!
Read for pleasure more
Last year, I made a resolution to read at least one book, a month. But that only went on till February (Netflix ruined me). This year, I genuinely want to start reading more. Not only because I enjoy reading, but also because in today’s digital world, It’s very easy to get distracted and lose focus when you’re doing something. I find myself multi-tasking every moment of the day. Even when I’m watching a movie, my hands itch to take out my phone and scroll through my Instagram feed. Reading is something that improves attention span and also helps unplug.
I often find myself stuck in a rut. If I find something I like, I stick to it. I’m not much of an experimenter and I think that’s something I need to do more to get out of my comfort zone. Being open minded to new suggestions is something I struggle with, and it’s something I’d like to overcome in 2019.
Meet new People
I wouldn’t call myself an Introvert, but then again, I wouldn’t call myself an extrovert either. I love sitting at home with a good book or a netflix show, but after a while, I feel claustrophobic and all I want to do is put on an amazing outfit and go out!
So I fall somewhere in the middle of the intro-extrovert spectrum and that’s a great place to be because there’s always a balance, however, there are times when my inner Introvert gets a little dominant. That’s something I definitely want to work on in 2019. Meet friends and family more often and be open to meeting new people!
These are my resolutions for 2019. Have you made any this year? Let me know in the comments below 🙂
